This virtual space will be used as a community sketchbook for students in AEAH 3770 Computer Art Applications. Specific prompts, assignments, and student reflections will be shared and exhibited
I realize these people are creating music but its still amazing to consider what they could do if the idea was altered to work with painting or some other form of art.
I think this is art in itself. The conductor is playing to images that he has chosen so he is combing both roles of artist and composer. It would be interesting to see how far this technology goes, like you said mental painting. It would be awesome to just have one of these at home, you wouldn't need iTunes anymore! This could definitely be worked into everyday life, hopefully just not like Wall-e.
so i can't say how non-legit this website looks, but as soon as jeremy brought up this topic, i immediately thought of a career i thought about going into (if i were to go on to grad school). making prosthetic limbs is something that benefits the lives of many. though they may not be thought of as artists, prosthetists help to create artificial limbs to those who have lost them, be it an arm, a leg, or even a finger.
This was an exhibition I saw at the MOMA 4 years ago and it displays the works of artists who are working with technology and science. The site has a lot of artists and it is a little overwhelming, but it was a fantastic show. Also, there is a whole section on 3D printing which is pretty awesome.
This short documentary is pretty interesting. Art is definitely a big part of artificial intelligence. Someone has to come up with the design for the computer. In a classroom setting, art can be combined with technology to make robots and/or different types of inventions. Kids are under stimulated in today's education. I think they could advance farther if they are given the means and the motivation to do it.
This is really neat. It's a program created by Microsoft that helps you make a visual timeline, so to speak of your life. It picks up pieces of digital data and stuff that has been put online and you get to choose how significant it it and whether or not it shows up on your timeline/web.
This brings forth the thoughts of color vibration in the cones and rods in the eye. Ad also haw technology has let us break down an image to see how colors vibrate to make an image. its really cool.
"Eyebeam is an art and technology center that provides a fertile context and state-of-the-art tools for digital research and experimentation." I think that this would be a great way to use both technology and art. The program behind this is amazing!!
In this video, the Gray Area Foundation for the Arts "brings together the best creative coders, data artists, designers, and makers to create experiments that build social consciousness through digital culture."
Also part of GAFFTA, is the Creators Project. Here's just one video about an artist and his technological innovation:
This thing is pretty cool. If you could get ahold of a class room set students could use this to create sculptural forms as practice. Once they devised a cool sculpture with the neo cube they would then replicate it with a different material to make it a permanent sculpture.
"Every act of creation is first an act of destruction," said the great Pablo Picasso. And it is in that spirit that a new generation of 13 artists have been commissioned to recreate some of the old masters using technology. But are these new versions any good or are they simply ruining the classics?"
Psh, what do reporters know. I think this is awesome!
This is crazy! the students at NYU were given a semester final on this 120 foot screen and I'm pretty sure it was more of an idea machine! to think that you are given instructions and obeying them from an inanimate object makes you think- how programmed are we to take orders? what kind of ideas would the students come up with that would influence the viewer into an action?
I've always thought it was fascinating that the reason we have typefaces on our computers is because Steve Jobs had a background in calligraphy. The idea of hand-drawn typography and handwriting leading to the digitization of typefaces is incredible.

That is amazing. It's cool that it has sensors, I would love to go to a beach with all of these creatures or even have a heard of them at my farm.
